Peer Review Process
Peer review is an essential process in maintaining the academic quality, integrity, and credibility of J-EMaS (Journal of Educational Management & Islamic Studies). The peer-review process assists the Editor in making informed editorial decisions and provides authors with constructive feedback to improve the quality of their manuscripts.
All manuscripts submitted to J-EMaS through the online submission system are initially screened by the Editorial Board to assess their suitability with the journal's focus and scope, author guidelines, manuscript structure, academic quality, and plagiarism requirements. Manuscripts that meet the initial screening criteria will proceed to the peer-review process.
J-EMaS applies a double-blind peer-review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process. Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers who have relevant expertise in the field of the submitted manuscript.
The Editor will select reviewers based on their academic expertise, research competence, publication record, and relevance to the manuscript's subject area. Reviewers will receive an invitation through the journal's online system and will be provided with the manuscript and relevant review guidelines.
Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively and critically, particularly in terms of:
-
relevance to the focus and scope of J-EMaS;
-
originality and contribution to the field;
-
clarity of research objectives and research questions;
-
appropriateness of research methods;
-
quality and relevance of data and analysis;
-
coherence and quality of discussion;
-
validity of conclusions;
-
adequacy and relevance of references; and
-
clarity of academic writing and presentation.
The review process is normally completed within two weeks, although the actual duration may vary depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript. Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editor will make the final editorial decision, which may include accept, accept with minor revisions, revise and resubmit (major revisions), or reject.
When revisions are required, authors are expected to respond to reviewers' comments carefully and submit a revised manuscript within the timeframe determined by the Editor. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
Manuscripts that successfully complete the review and editorial process will be considered for publication in J-EMaS. The journal accepts manuscripts written in Bahasa Indonesia or English.
Promptness
Reviewers who are invited to evaluate a manuscript should promptly assess whether the manuscript falls within their area of expertise and whether they are able to complete the review within the specified timeframe. Reviewers who feel unqualified to review the manuscript or are unable to complete the review promptly should notify the Editor and decline the invitation.
Confidentiality
All manuscripts received for peer review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not disclose, share, copy, or discuss the manuscript or its contents with any third party without prior authorization from the Editor.
Information obtained during the review process must not be used for personal, professional, or academic advantage.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews must be conducted objectively, fairly, and constructively. Reviewers should evaluate the manuscript based on its academic content and contribution rather than the identity, institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, religion, or personal characteristics of the authors.
Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear, evidence-based, and constructive comments that can assist authors in improving their manuscript.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors when such works are important to the manuscript.
Any observation, argument, concept, or finding that has previously been reported should be appropriately supported by relevant citations. Reviewers should also inform the Editor of any significant similarity, overlap, or potential plagiarism between the manuscript under review and other published or submitted works of which they are aware.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may affect their ability to provide an objective and impartial review.
Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts when they have personal, professional, academic, financial, competitive, collaborative, or institutional relationships with any of the authors, or when other circumstances may reasonably compromise their objectivity.
Privileged information, unpublished data, ideas, or arguments obtained through the peer-review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal or professional advantage.
Editorial Decision
The final decision regarding the publication of a manuscript is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and/or Editorial Board of J-EMaS, taking into consideration the reviewers' recommendations, the quality of the revised manuscript, the journal's standards, and the relevance of the manuscript to the journal's focus and scope.
The Editor may accept, request revisions, or reject a manuscript based on the overall editorial and peer-review assessment. A positive reviewer recommendation does not automatically g
